How a Teacher More Than Quadrupled His Online Income Goal!

Actually, I made TWENTY-EIGHT TIMES my original goal.

Okay, the title sounds good, but it is not really that impressive.  My original goal was to make a $1.00 online.  After a few months worth of work, I have now made $28 and some change.  It has been a ton of work and I have made a lot of mistakes.

I can officially say that this online money making things is hard, but I have learned a ton and I see the potential.

The hardest part so far has been navigating unknown waters and trying to stick to a schedule.  I have learned so much and I am very excited.  School is going to start in a couple of weeks and I am trying to set things up where I can grow what I have started with about 30-60 minutes of extra work each night.

I have learned a lot about keywords which all teachers should do anyway.  The best thing so far is I have some amazing real world ideas to use in my classroom.

I have made the top ten in google for my site www.drawingideasforkids.blogspot.com and I make a few cents off of it each day.  I know that doesn't sound like a lot but I can replicate what I have learned with other sites.

Some things I have learned are that you really don't need any money to get started.

I am also creating a website www.funactivities4kids.com.

My new goal is to make $100.
I also want to get my website to the top of google searches.  It is not done yet but click on it anyway.

Teacher Trying to Make Summer Income

Okay!  I've been putting in a lot of late nights.  I have totally changed directions from when I started.  I originally thought I would start a math website because I love teaching elementary math, but instead my attention has been drawn to creating videos online.

This has been a fun reprieve from my daily school work and I have been gaining some visitors.  I'm not sure if you are aware but you can monetize videos on youtube.  If people a lot of people watch your videos, you can make money from advertising.  I have made a few cents doing this for about a months worth of work, but even though I am not making much yet, I have been getting better.

You can check out my site www.drawingideasforkids.blogspot.com or check out my youtube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/steadtacular

I think  I have made like $2.00 doing this, I'm not sure how I ever get that money, but I hope to tell you more about it when I have more time.

The idea of making real extra money seems like a long way off, but I am going to keep at it.  I need to start thinking about a summer job.  I would love to create more content that is good for my classroom and maybe monetize it.  I have come a long way towards learning to make money online.  My next goal is to earn $20.

I still think teachers can make extra money online with something they love.

I did it!

Teacher Struggles to Make Money Online

I am struggling to keep up with school work and additional work.  I have learned a lot in the last month about some online things.  I have learned all about keywords, and I am testing out some ideas on how to use them.

I know that teachers can make extra money online, but it is a little scary putting myself out there.

With the increased demands of school, parents and family life, it is tiring to work on the computer late at night when everyone has gone to sleep.  I have found that shooting for small goals helps me to stay motivate.

One of the talents that I have is cartooning.  It is a side passion of mine, but my students love when I show them drawings.  I went on the Google Keyword tool, this is a free tool on Google.  It shows you the number of people who look up certain words.  I noticed that Drawing Ideas for Kids gets a few hundred hits a month, so it is my goal to get my google blog (like this one which is free) in the first page.  The cool thing is that I am almost there.  drawingideasforkids.blogspot.com

If you Google: drawing ideas for kids, you'll see some of my things on the second page.  I haven't made any money after a month of work, but it is fun to see hits on my blogs and videos.

It was a tough week of teaching.  I love it, but being able to have outside money would certainly help free up my mind so I could be even more effective.

I also love teaching math, I have started a math site called Fast Math U.  I hope to make it a place that it is useful for elementary math students who want to learn mental math tricks.

I haven't made a dollar yet, but I've learned a lot.

I still have not made a dollar, but I have learned a lot about how Google works.  We are just coming off of a week long break, so it is back to the grind.  My goals for this week are to get my website www.fastmathu.com up and looking good.

I thought this would be an easy process, but it hasn't been.  I am using a webhosting service for the website because of something called Wordpress.  Wordpress is a platform for creating websites, but it is not as easy to learn as using Blogger.

I have learned that unless I give myself a punishment for not accomplishing my objectives for the week that they will never get done.

This week my goal by Saturday is to be able to show videos on my website.
In addition, I will be creating one video each night for my youtube kids drawing channel.

Hm?  I already missed my first deadline, and I am making the bed every day (my wife loves this).  If I fail to meet these objectives, I will clean one of our bathrooms every day for a month.

I have spent the entire week of break researching ideas and studying some of the things about keywords on the internet.

I still feel that Teachers should be able to make extra pay or earn an extra income from their talents.  I've yet to prove it.

Can Teachers Make Extra Money With Affiliates

The question today is if teachers can make extra money online with affiliates.  Can teachers earn extra pay selling things?  I think they can.  Think about it.  If you are a teacher, you are an amazing sales person.  You are selling education to kids.  The best teachers are the best sales people.  They can sell ideas to students in amazing ways.

Teachers Sell Ideas Everyday

One of my favorite teachers was a man who looked like Albert Einstein.  He was my high school Chemistry teacher.  With his kindness and patience, he sold Chemistry to me.  I bought it: hook, line and sinker.  I clearly remember a joke a DimethylpropeopleEther.  I have no idea how to explain the joke, but I remember it made me laugh for the entire day.

Teacher Can't Sell Meaningless Things

Here is the problem for me as a teacher.  I can't sell something unless it is meaningful.  I can't sell a car, but I can sell some great mental math tricks I have for students.  I can sell the Revolutionary War to students.  I can sell creative writing to students.  I have even learned how to sell coordinating conjunctions to students--its one of the students favorite lessons each year.  I get kids to love coordinating conjunctions!  If I can do that, there must be something that can sell to people online that will help them add to their lives.

What is an Affiliate Ad?

It is really pretty simple.  Companies want to advertise their products and make sales.  If you sign up for an affiliate program, you get a commission each time someone goes through your site to buy a product.  I'm not sure if it is only if they buy a product that you get a commission or if it is through clicks too.  I plan on investigating more.

If you listen to some of the popular podcasts on itunes, you'll hear them pushing affiliate ads.  Amazon has a big program that I am looking into.  I hope to provide teachers who are interested in making more pay with more information about this soon.

Below I am going to put a link to an affiliate advertisement.  These are simple ads I picked out.  I love kayaks.  My dream is to get a Hobie Kayak.  They have these special fins you can move with your feet.  The  design is based on penguin flippers.  Hobie kayaks also have attachments for sailing.  I can't afford a Hobie kayak.  I'm a teacher just like you.  I need to increase my pay a lot by making money online if I will ever get that kayak.  Here are some kayaks I was comparing to the Hobie kayak.  It is my guess that there is no way anyone reading this right now will buy one of these kayaks, but if they did, I am very curious to know if I would make any money?

You can't see it, but when I picked these images out it gave me the price of the kayaks.  These are big tickets items, so I am guessing that play into how much pay a teacher can get from posting pictures online.  These are from all different retailers.  The green one looks hideous.  I wouldn't buy any of these because I love fishing.  I need to have my hands free to cast.

I love the look of that one computer.  I have a Dell that works well for me.  My wife has Apple products she loves them, I eat apples.  My favorite apple is a Honey Crisp.  Interesting side note: they were developed in 1983, as I understand it.  Crazy?  A new apple in 1983?  What's more impressive the new Apple iPhone or coming up with an actual apple?  If you get a Honey Crisp apple, you get 16GB of yumminess.

I still have not made one single dollar.  I know that might seem crazy with the amazing sales chops in this post.

Buy a kayak!  I need to make a dollar, so I can let other teachers know it is possible to earn extra pay online.

Pay For Teachers: How To Give Another Teacher Money

The web is fascinating to me.  I was so caught up in helping kids learn that I never really thought about the power of it.

Recently, I woke up.  I created a simple video to use in my classroom about compatible numbers.  I posted it in June so I could use it in my classroom in September.  Well, the year got going (my computers in school weren't working) and I totally forgot about it.  The other day I was just checking the account and it had gotten more than 1,800 hits.  I was shocked.  This is the video.

How can this idea get extra pay for teachers?  How can it help teachers make extra money?  I just noticed that after a certain period of time online, YouTube lets you monetize your videos.  That means YouTube will put little ads on them.  If people click the ads, YouTube will pay you a few cents.  I am testing it out.  I am still a teacher who hasn't made any money online?  Is it possible?

A lot of great teachers have years and years of great teaching ideas that never get used in the classroom.  Why not post them online?

Try it!  Teachers should get extra pay for all the hard work they put in after hours.  Not only that, I've discovered that posting videos actually makes your lessons in class better.

I am still on my mission to make a dollar, but now at least I have some extra lessons that I can use in my classroom.

The next time you view a great video that you use in class, click on the ad.  Some teacher will get extra pay because of it.  Everyone wins!
